Funeral services for Sister Dellia Mae Lacy-Thirkill, 63 of Longview will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 am at the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 17082 FM 782 N., Tatum with Pastor Kenneth Pruitt, Bishop James Dancy, Pastor Lobee Johnson, Minister Kim Wallace, Minister Cheryl Jackson and Dr. Mattie Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Jacksonville City Cemetery, Jacksonville under the direction of Garmon Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dellia Mae Lacy-Thirkill was born January 30, 1949 to Mr. Raymond Lacy and Mrs. Pearlie Mae Lee Lacy in Henderson, Rusk County, Texas. She attended Goldsberry elementary and later Henderson High School. Dellia later received her Nurse’s License from Kilgore College and became a Nurses’ Assistant. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age and united with the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ where she was called into the ministry as a Missionary. Sis. Thirkill served at New Jerusalem for approximately thirty-five years where she evangelized and taught the Word of God in which many souls were blessed through her ministry.
On May 25, 1974, Ms. Dellia Lacy united in marriage with Toliver Ray Thirkill and together they raised two daughters and a son. Sis. Dellia was preceded in death by her husband, Toliver Ray Thirkill; twin daughters, Jan and Janice Thirkill; parents, Raymond and Pearlie Mae Lacy; sister, Mamie Nicholous; brothers, Otis Lacy, Lincoln Lacy, Raymond Lacy and Al Vincent Lacy.
Sister Dellia Mae Thirkill leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters - Tanya L. McKinney (Gary) and Suprina Nelson (Hobert); one son - Demetric Thirkill all of Longview, Texas; four grandchildren, Hannah Nelson, Hobert Nelson IV, Skylar Nelson and Stephen Nelson all of Longview, Texas, four sisters, Irene Clemons (Timothy), Charlene Taylor (Terry), Connie Harris all of Dallas, Texas; Mary Loise Bell of Longview, Texas; two brothers, James Lacy (Quisie) of Lufkin, Texas and William Lacy of Lancaster, Texas; aunts, Mert Lacy of Mesquite, Texas; Lila Mae Gaston and Vieola Hart both of Jacksonville, Florida; special sister-in-law, Faye Thirkill- Wallace, a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, March 9, 2012 from 1-6 pm and family visitation will be from 6-7 pm at the funeral home. The body will be available for viewing Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10-11 am at the church.
